Funerary Statuette of a Man

Unknown artist, Egyptian

Height: 29.2 cm (11 1/2 inches)
Gift of Mrs. Gustav Radeke 11.033

This idealized funerary statuette was made for the deceased person’s ka-spirit and would have been put within or beside his coffin. The tomb of a well-to-do person commonly contained more than one ka statue. These often represented him at different stages of life. The mid-calf length white kilt on this figure identifies him as a mature man. The statuette was made in several parts, including separately fashioned arms and the front portions of the feet.
