  • 10_06 OH Pavlik - computational-tectonics

Photography by Bob Pavlik

2:30 – 4:30 pm, Contemporary Art Gallery

Part of Locally Made’s One Room.

In Office Hours, artists, designers, experts, and brainiacs take the doors off of their offices and studios. Stop by for conversation or advice.

The backyard workshop has become a laboratory for experiments with materials and methods of making, declaring war on the generic architectural box. With the goal of finding more efficient uses of materials, a series of critical questions and empirical testing has led to some unexpected material possibilities. Come see the work. Come learn about the process. See an experiment in action.Bob Pavlik

Free with museum admission.Bob Pavlik is an architect and educator based in Providence, Rhode Island. He holds a Master of Design Studies from the Harvard Graduate School of Design, and a Bachelor of Architecture from Roger Williams University. Bob began his teaching career at Roger Williams University. He is currently a lecturer at Northeastern University, where he teaches design studios, and courses in building technology and architectural tectonics. He also teaches at Rhode Island School of Design | CE. Existing somewhere between architecture and sculpture, Bob’s work combines digital design and fabrication methods with traditional hand craft techniques. It is the outcome of academic research that focuses on materiality, and the logics of construction. His work explores new architectural forms and structures that result from novel understandings and exploitations of how materials behave, and how we assemble them together.
