Shake Some Action

Lynne Harlow, Shake Some Action, 2006. Mary B. Jackson Fund.

Artist Questionnaire
Many of the artists included in Locally Made responded to a series of questions about their materials and process. A selected response follows.

Title: Shake Some Action

Location of residence: Providence, Rhode Island

Location of work (studio/office): Pawtucket, Rhode Island

Process: Shake Some Action exemplifies my exploration of austere geometric forms using materials whose radiant properties expand beyond the rigid edges of the forms to energize the surrounding space. The piece fully embraces the inherent characteristics of the colored and fluorescent Plexiglas pieces, transforming this common commercial material into an ethereal substance.

My working process is driven by a single question: How little is enough? Shake Some Action represents one variation of colors, materials, and proportions that are just enough to arrive at a complete visual experience, requiring nothing further and including nothing superfluous.
