Professional Development

Learn how to integrate art and design into your teaching. Develop ways to encourage visual literacy as well as creative and critical thinking.

Workshops & Institutes

Workshops support teachers’ efforts to develop students’ visual literacy, and encourage creative and critical teaching and learning. Educators receive the tools to investigate works of art, to create connections between their subject area and works of art, and to stimulate dynamic cross-curricular learning. Customized workshops for individual schools and districts are also available upon request.

Information on our next workshop can be found here.

School Partnerships

The RISD Museum offers in-depth programs that include professional training, curriculum planning, and gallery learning. To discuss these opportunities and other possible partnerships, please contact School & Teacher Programs.

For example, the Think Like An Archeologist partnership, an ongoing collaboration between the RISD Museum, the Joukowsky Institute for Archaeology and the Ancient World, the Haffenreffer Museum of Anthropology, and Providence Public Schools introduces 6th grade students to the concepts, methods and skills of archeology and to the interpretation of cultural artifacts in museums.
