In ancient Mesoamerica, sacred temples were often decorated with the mouth of a feline as a gateway into the supernatural world. By reviving this symbolism at
the entrance to the Egyptian collection, we are breathing life back into this room and honoring those whose remains and relics are within. The combination of
mural and papier-mâché aesthetics pays homage to traditional Mexican-American art.

Our collective Mexican-American identities have a history of celebrating life and death through art and ritual. We hope that our presence in the Museum raises
awareness of the lack of diversity within most art institutions.
