Joseph Aaron Segal was raised in the Boston area of Massachusetts, and now resides in Providence, Rhode Island. He earned his BFA from the University of Massachusetts and completed the MFA program in Textile Design at Rhode Island School of Design in 2009. Joseph currently teaches Industrial Knitting at RISD while working as a freelance knitwear designer and lead designer for his two brands, World of JAS and Pretty Snake. He has had the opportunity to collaborate, consult and design for a variety of fashion designers, artists and yarn companies.
In 2009 he launched his first high-end apparel collection, World of JAS, which features clothing created with specialty knitted and printed textiles. The World of JAS and Pretty Snake collections are sold in boutiques and online shops globally from Providence, RI to Kyoto, Japan and have been featured in Stitches,Surface and Fiber Arts Magazine. Joseph can also be found as a cast member on the 11th season of the Emmy nominated reality television show, Project Runway, aired on the Lifetime network.
