Jason Tranchida is a designer, artist and publisher based in Providence RI. In 2002 he launched LLAMAproduct, an inter-disciplinary firm offering graphic design, branding, marketing, project and event development, exhibit design, and fabrication. Now on its sixth issue, Headmaster is an assignment-based, print publication that challenges artists to investigate themes of masculinity and sexuality.
Matthew Lawrence is a writer, editor, publisher, curator, and event planner based in (and originally hailing from) Providence, Rhode Island. He is one of the founding editors of Headmaster, the biannual art magazine for man-lovers, and he runs Not About The Buildings, an independent literary events organization known for its spelling bees, micro-memoir writing workshops, and marathon readings of very short novels. He is currently "working on a novel."
Hannah Abelow is a painter, video artist and maker of many things. Born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, she is currently living and working in Providence, Rhode Island.
Drawing from such diverse influences as cartoons, street art and surrealism, Stoughton, Massachusetts native Joshua Baptista inventively expresses the complexities of loss, loneliness and ennui through intricately rendered ink and gauche drawings of a uniquely stylized, but distinctly New England, cityscape. As the subject of most of his work, Baptista's characters congregate in scenes that recall both a teenager's wake and a neighborhood block party envisioned by Bosch, punctuated by improbable architecture and encroaching wilderness. Baptista began his professional studies at the prestigious Accademia di Belli Arte in Italy before earning his BFA at Montserrat College of Art where his achievements were recognized with the Award of Excellence and inclusion in Beverly's 301 Gallery. A period of prolific creation and inspired journeys to places as different like Alaska and Thailand introduced techniques and informed the emerging aesthetic that he honed in the MFA program at American University. Exhibits at the Katzen Museum, The Conant Gallery and the Rochester Museum of Fine Art and publication in Juxtapose Magazine continue to demonstrate Baptista's dedication to creating images that are compelling yet accessible, confrontational yet relevant.
Gloria Gardenburger is the Providence underground's psychedelic swingin' stepmom. Influenced by her old friends Rip Taylor, Mrs. Roper, and H.R. Pufnstuf, Gloria believes in better living through laughter, costume, and big hair.
PAULA HUNTER is a Providence-based performance artist/choreographer/writer whose work combines text and movement in a bittersweet swirl of quirkiness. Hunter began talking and dancing early in her career when she realized that life with her gambling Dad and her singularly odd collection of relatives offered her a built-in reservoir of hilarious stories and a downright bizarre movement style. A dancing memoirist, Hunter's work is unique in that she completely integrates text/stories and movement.
