About
Writer and arts advocate Andrea Mozarowski is joined by Costume & Textiles Curator Kate Irvin for a presentation and conversation on Ukrainian textiles. In 2017, the RISD Museum acquired, by donation, a collection of textiles from her ancestral village of Mozhary, Ukraine. In this program, Mozarowski will take you on a journey to the village as she experienced it, post-Perestroika, including the lost traditions of weaving in the village. She will explore how the original story carriers became her muses, focusing on the patterns represented in the cloth, their origins, their totemic qualities, and their connection to human survival.
The textiles are currently on view in the museum’s Costume & Textiles Study Center.
Free. Registration required. An email with a Zoom link for the program will be sent to registrants.
