Shey Rivera will explore the cultural trauma of post-war Japan and how animation was used to reclaim national identity. A brief analysis of Hiroki Azuma's book "Database Animals" and Takashi Murakami's Superflat movement will shed light on how new generations are consuming data and reconfiguring narratives. —Shey Rivera

Shey Rivera is an artist and arts manager. She is the founder of .Crudo, an independent arts and culture digital magazine focused on contemporary Latin-American art and culture. She currently works as the Director of Programming at AS220, an arts nonprofit that serves as an unjuried and uncensored home for artists in Rhode Island. Shey specializes in Japanese visual culture, gender/identity, and cyber/media theory.
