Join this lively conversation about the sculpture of Pan in the Museum's Radeke Garden led by Mike Fink, Professor Emeritus in RISD's Literary Arts & Studies Department, and Preston McClanahan, Professor Emeritus in RISD’s Graphic Design Department. Through close “reading” of this marble work, Fink and McClanahan will discuss a variety of topics including: image-making, visual symbols, Greek mythology, nature, and contexts of public spaces.

Mike Fink, professor emeritus at the Rhode Island School of Design, Literary Arts and Studies, began teaching at the school in 1957. He created the composition course called "Drawing with Words," which later became the title of his book. He was also instrumental in saving Carr House from destruction in the early 1970s and produced several films with RISD's Film, Animation, Video department. A skilled storyteller, Mike regularly writes essays, anecdotes, reviews, and interviews for local, national, and international magazines. His deep appreciation and love for nature and birds is often part of his writing.
Preston M. McClanahan, professor emeritus at the Rhode Island School of Design, Graphic Design, where he founded a course on Visual Syntax. This course applies to all of the visual arts in image making from architecture, graphic and Industrial design to sculpture and painting. He also founded PM Films LLC, which provides professional graphic design, illustration, painting, and writing services. In addition to his work at RISD, McClanahan designed exhibits at the American Museum of Natural History. McClanahan is a member of the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA).
