How do artists speak to environmental issues? Artist Mary Miss (American, b. 1944) has reshaped boundaries between sculpture, architecture, landscape design, and installation art since the early 1970s. Trained as a sculptor, Miss emphasizes a site's history, ecology, and environmental aspects while collaborating with architects, engineers, ecologists, and public administrators. City as Living Laboratory (CaLL), an initiative she conceived, provides platforms for artists working with scientists, urban planners, and the public to make sustainability tangible through the arts. On April 21, Miss will share projects and experiences that have cultivated her interest in the role artists can play in addressing complex issues, and discuss the integration of art into in the public realm. Immediately following, she will speak about Falsework: Screen(1980), an early work included in the upcoming exhibition Drawing Ambience: Alvin Boyarsky and the Architectural Association.
