About
Sitings is an annual juried competition that invites Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) students to respond to the RISD Museum's collection, its architectural idiosyncrasies, and the way people navigate its spaces.
This year's winning installations are History Bridge by Lachlan Turczan (BFA 2015, Film + Video) and Living Architecture: The Sacred Catwalk by Suzy González and Michael R. León (both MFA 2015, Painting) and Michael Menchaca (MFA 2015, Printmaking). The juror for the 2015 competition was Chitra Ganesh, RISD’s first Vikram and Geetanjali Kirloskar Visiting Scholar in Painting.
Begun in 1995, Sitings is an annual opportunity for RISD degree candidates to create site-specific installations in the Museum that offer a comment on, or response to, Museum spaces and the collection; two projects are selected each year for implementation. The intent of this juried event is to encourage students to explore and celebrate the eccentricities of the Museum’s buildings, to experience working in a museum environment, and to engage with the public. The creators of the winning projects work with Museum staff during each phase of the exhibition process, and receive cash prizes and implementation funds.
