Teachers' Lounge
About
Consider topics, issues and ideals related to teaching and learning with colleagues. Freely exchange and develop ideas in a relaxed and congenial environment. Join educators from across K-12, informal learning, and colleges and universities for aspirational conversations around topics of shared interest. Each Teachers' Lounge is facilitated by an invited guest who initiates the dialogue around relevant pedagogical issues.
Amy Salomone shares how she integrates art-based activities and units into her STEAM-based science courses and uses museum objects to enhance her students' engagement and understanding of essential concepts. Participants learn about and engage in activities which utilize the visual arts as a learning tool. She also discusses the value of working in an interdisciplinary way in different school contexts.
Amy Salomone is a secondary art and science teacher at Rhode Island Nurses Institute Middle College Charter School, a school for students who aspire to work in the health care fields. She has merged her love for art and science to create Physiological Art and Anatomical Art courses where students create works of art as well as develop knowledge, skills and deeper understandings of scientific concepts.
