About
Join Dominic Molon, Richard Baker Curator of Contemporary Art, shares the recent installation, Pledges of Allegiance, and upcoming exhibit, The Phantom of Liberty. Pledges of Allegiance is a nationwide art project organized by Creative Time. Serialized commission flags created by artists respond to the current political climate. On view from October 11 through November 11, Jayson Musson's A Horror. The Phantom of Liberty features works from the museum's Contemporary Art, Costume and Textiles, Decorative Arts, Painting and Sculpture, and Prints, Drawings, and Photographs, in the broadest and most expansive presentation of postwar art and design from the collection to date. The exhibition's title and structure are inspired by Luis Buñuel's 1974 film of the same name, with often disparate thematic concentrations--ranging from faith and spirituality, to race and representation—that transition from one into the other. The title's political overtones also reflects the exhibition's emphasis on more topical and provocative work in the collection and demonstrates how artists variously engage with the issues and concerns of the moment.
