Work in Process
About
In connection with Creative Time's Pledges of Allegiance project and Trevor Paglen's Weeping Angel flag now on view, stop by to chat with interdisciplinary artists and scholars, Shona Kitchen and Stewart Copeland (RISD MFA 2019 Digital +Media) about the art of surveillance.
Free.
Shona Kitchen is an internationally recognized artist, designer and educator whose work spans public art, conceptual narrative proposals, book works, exhibitions and interactive sculpture/installation. Whether creating a surveillance system for a school of fish or a tidal monitoring sign for a creek-bed, she uses her work to provocatively critique our relationship with the typically siloed natural and technological worlds and to speculate about what could be. Her practice is frequently collaborative, research-based and site-specific.
Stewart Copeland is an interdisciplinary artist from Nashville, TN currently pursuing his MFA in Digital + Media at The Rhode Island School of Design. With a background in documentary film-making, Stewart is currently researching data collection and monitoring techniques used by wildlife management institutions to explore the ways technology can blur the lines between natural and unnatural.
