About
Come listen to the unique sounds of Sumie Kaneko as she plays traditional Japanese instruments at the RISD Museum. Kaneko will be performing the koto (a 6 feet long horizontal harp) and the shamisen (a lute guitar) in two different 45 minute performances. These performances are planned in conjunction with Striking Chords: Music in Ukiyo-E Prints, an exhibition which captures the music of Japanese society during the Edo period (1615–1868) in 14 ukiyo-e woodblock prints.
The 2:00-2:45 pm performance focuses on Traditional Strings and the 3:00-3:45 pm performance focuses on Modern Strings.
These performances are full to capacity.
Free with admission. Seating limited. Registration requested.
There will be a very limited number of seats available for drop-in visitors.
