In collaboration with the Souls Grown Deep Foundation, this internship position will introduce a selected RISD undergraduate student to museum work through an in-depth experience in curatorial and conservation work in the Costume & Textiles department of the RISD Museum.
Applicants should have a strong interest in museum work and in curatorial and conservation work in the area of costume & textiles, but no previous museum experience or academic background in art history is necessary. This program is open to currently enrolled RISD sophomores, juniors, and seniors of color. Students who are not U.S. citizens are welcome to apply for the internship if they have a visa that is valid for the entire internship program. The internship begins January 6, 2022, and ends May 13, 2022, spanning wintersession and spring semesters. The intern will work for 20 hours per week during wintersession and 8 hours per week during the spring semester and will receive a stipend of $5,000. We anticipate and will plan for in-person internships, but will pivot to a hybrid or virtual experience if necessary.
The deadline for submitting applications is October 15, 2021, at 11:59 pm Eastern Time. Selected candidates will be interviewed in late October or early November, and all applicants will be notified by mid-November. Questions should be addressed to museum-academic@risd.edu.
