During one of several lengthy visits to Dakar, Senegal, Stahl purchased this shimmering gold-on-black version of a popular pattern that celebrates the beauty of African women and their fashionable braided hairstyles. This screenprinted length was closely based on an original wax print designed by Yao Kouassi Norbert for the Côte d'Ivoire manufacturer Uniwax.
