The multi-pointed star was Stewart Hitch’s signature shape, which he executed freehand, its rough edges giving the drawing a raw, explosive quality. Hitch’s gestural strokes and dense application of oil stick create three distinct layers of the composition: the red star, an intricate web of thick, dark lines, and a bright background of orange, yellow, and blue.
