Exhibition History

Exhibition History

Asian Art Galleries

Decorated with floral motifs and long-tailed birds, the lacquered surface of this bowl was engraved with designs; colored lacquer was then used to fill the hollowed grooves. Burmese lacquer artists perfected this laborious method, which requires the meticulous application and polishing of numerous coats of lacquer as well as a skilled hand in inscribing designs onto the vessels.
