The text of the plaque reads as follows:At a meeting of the Board of Directors of Gorham/Manufacturing Company held December 14th the/following resolution was passed/ WILLIAM CHRISTMAS CODMAN/ Died at Working Surrey England December 5th 1923/ From 1891 until his resignation in May 1914 he was connected with/ the Gorham Manufacturing Company as its chief designer./During that time by reason of his tireless energy his keen interest/in his work his broad artistic training and marked ability he had/ succeeded in raising the standard of the Company's goods to heights/ never before attained. He was a genial personality and he was/respected and loved by all who came in contact with him./Brilliant in his work having a keen sense of humor and a/wonderfully sunny disposition he gained the admiration and/affection of those associated with him and under his supervision./ His loss since retirement has been felt by the Company and by the trade at large and in his death those who knew/him well feel that they have lost a true friend./The Board of Directors desire to express to his family their/sincere sympathy and sorrow for them in their bereavement/and it is therefore/RESOLVED. That this resolution be placed/upon the records of the Company/and a copy suitably engrossed/be transmitted to his family.
