The composition on this charger features birds on branches with flowers. The design likely derives from Chinese woodblock prints in the library of Augustus the Strong, king of Poland and the founder of the Meissen Manufactory. The rim is relief-molded in a diagonal basket-weave pattern referred to as sulkowski ozier. The style is named for Count Alexander Joseph Sulkowski, for whose service first used this pattern, and osier, a species of willow tree used for weaving baskets.
