Exhibition History

The Applied Image
Mar 11, 1998 – Jun 21, 1998

Label copy

In this coat, the artist has used knot stitch and satin stitch to depict typically Chinese themes. Butterflies symbolize femininity and also longevity, as the word for butterfly is a homophone for "80 years." Multiple fish symbolize conjugal bliss and double abundance. The knot stitch creates a varied, textured surface.
