About
French designer Jacques Griffe’s understanding of textile structures is evident in this dinner dress. While it appears quite diaphanous, four layers of net and acetate taffeta are hidden under the first layer of fabric to create volume. The sheer top layer of delicate lace is masterfully pierced—hand-shaped silk rosettes push through, with petals applied to the surface.
Working under the French designer Vionnet, Griffe had learned the art of draping and cutting. Those skills are revealed here in his ingenious use of darts across the shoulder blades at the back. The V-back neckline accents Griffe’s smooth line.
