Jeanne Silverthorne

Jeanne Silverthorne makes eccentric and uncanny sculptural objects and installations from cast rubber. In Dry Mouth, the strange, bubbling substance spilling out from the frame is based on images of healthy human mouth bacteria greatly enlarged through an electron microscope. The work evokes the physicality of the human body, but it also suggests a metaphor for an uncontrolled emotional state. Set in an ornate black picture frame, it wittily blurs the distinction between painting and sculpture.
