Electrical towers, power lines, and road signs move in and out of focus among tree trunks and branches. We view the landscapes in these images from inside a moving car, calling attention to the impacts of today’s fast pace on the environment and our personal contributions to climate change.

The acceleration of contemporary life is seen in the speed of the car and the nearly instantaneous image production of the digital camera that was used to snap the images the prints are based on. This swiftness contrasts with the time-consuming and meditative act of carving the woodblocks that produced the prints. Samuels blurs distinctions between fast and slow image-making and the built and natural environments.
