By 1882, James Duncan of Benmore, Scotland (1834-1905), when exhibited and noted by Anon., "The Benmore Picture Gallery", The Argyllshire Standard (July 20, 1882); sold London, Christie, Manson and Woods, 9 February 1895, Catalogue of Ancient and Modern Pictures and Sculpture, being the remaining portion of the collection of James Duncan Esq., late of Benmore, p. 8, lot 55; purchased by Ward [possibly on behalf of Behrens]; by 1905 [date of handwritten note from Felix Moscheles referring to painting] collection of Louis Wilhelm Ferdinand Behrens, 'Newfield House,' Forest Hill, London; after 1910, descended through Tunstall-Behrens family to Brian Tunstall-Behrens, Devizes (Wiltshire); sold London, Christie, Manson and Woods, London; June 5 , 1959; Julius Weitzner, London, 1959.
