Into this cotton form created through off-loom weaving and knotting, Tanya Aguiñiga has incorporated terra-cotta impressions of her own hand. Now based in Los Angeles, Aguiñiga was raised in Tijuana, Mexico, crossing the border daily as a child to attend school in San Diego, California. By mixing cotton and clay from Mexico and the United States, she addresses issues of colonization, commodification, and the ownership of land.
