Troubetzkoy's "portrait statuettes," exhibited at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition and the 1900 Exposition Universelle in Paris, inspired Enid and others to create small scale genre "figurines" of prominent individuals. Bessie Potter Vonnoh, a friend and colleague of Enid's, is credited with popularizing the form.
