Meticulously inlaid with tiny wooden tiles, the lid for this mirror box features a feasting scene with a prince, entertainers, and musicians. The image is framed by intricate geometric designs mimicking architecture. Made using the traditional Iranian khātam technique for inlaying wood, bone, metal, or ivory pieces onto wood, this elaborate work was a luxury item that signaled the prestige of its affluent owner.
