This striking portrait of the artist Kiki Smith reflects her close and collaborative relationship with Jolie Stahl. Stahl posed Smith against a dark background, exaggerating Smith’s sinewy body language to suggest the intense spirituality that informs her life and work. In addition to garments and fabrics the two developed together, Stahl’s gift to the RISD Museum also includes Smith’s elegant and visceral sculpture, Glass Stomach.
