This devotional panel depicts Christ risen from the dead, standing on the edge of his open sarcophagus. He lifts his hand in blessing and raises a banner whose red cross signifies his rebirth. The scene is illuminated by a distant sunrise and the billowing drapery of the white shroud, in dramatic contrast to the dark, craggy rocks.

The figure’s elegantly balanced pose and slender torso resemble those of the gilded figure of Apollo at right, reflecting the influence of classical sculpture on the representation of the human figure in Renaissance art.
