Responding to the limited availability of materials during World War II, Jens Risom produced designs that used soft woods such as birch, with seats fashioned with woven strips of textiles ( as opposed to being fully upholstered). The light brown leather on this stool is less common than models with brightly colored textile seats, which were originally made from recycled parachute webbing. Risom’s woven examples, including this stool design, were the first products produced by Knoll.
