About

These textiles and garments were created using the split-tapestry technique—also known as kesi or k'o-ssu—which allowed the artisans to “paint” complex designs by painstakingly manipulating extremely fine silk weft yarns. This construction technique, thought to have migrated from Central Asia, has been used by weavers in China for centuries. Textiles made this way are very strong and durable.
