To create this rocking stool, William Hammersley used the process of bentwood lamination, gluing together thin strips of wood and applying them to a mold under great pressure. The backrest and seat are formed from one continuous, curving piece of laminated wood, reimagining the rocking chair’s timeless form by doing away with the arms. Drawing inspiration from equestrian riding saddles, Hammersley prominently placed the pommel both to anchor the sitter in the seat and to provide a handle as they take off rocking.
