When I was little and I went on walks with my mom, we would pass a sign that said SLOW CHILDREN AT PLAY. I never paid much attention to it. Recently I ran past the sign and wondered, is the sign for me or about me?

I’m 18 now, meaning I’m an adult, yet I don’t feel like an adult. Pondering my life, I’m thinking about how the world won’t slow down for me as I’m thrust into a position I’m not ready for. I feel childhood slip through my fingers. Too inexperienced to have a voice, I waited for the wisdom to hit me. The world never slowed down for me to grow, so I had to catch up.
