Exhibition History

Facing Artists
Twentieth Century Portraits from the Collection
Feb 27, 2009 – Jul 31, 2009

Label copy

Jim Dine’s work from the 1960s imbued everyday objects with personal meaning. In 1964 he appropriated a bathrobe image from an advertisement in the New

York Times, using it as a symbolic self in a series of paintings that year and revisiting it frequently thereafter, as in this richly layered and sensuous print from the late 1970s.
