Exhibition History

Exhibition History

European Galleries

Works from India made their way to Europe, as trade was expanded. Made for the Western tourist trade, this miniature watercolor painting on ivory features the Taj Mahal, an immense mausoleum of white marble. It was built in Agra between 1631 and 1648 by order of the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife.
