These drawings by Sue McNally come from a larger series that mines the effects of different media, colors, and poses in creating witty, unpretentious self-portraits. In Tank Top (top), vivid pink contrasts dynamically with thick white gesso, mirroring the sharp difference between her self-contained pose and unamused expression. In Untitled (bottom), McNally draws herself leaning onto her fist, as if bored, by using layers of ink washes.
