Label copy

This textile features suksuk, a technique that adds extra threads during the weaving process to produce a design on the surface. Here, the added pink cotton threads create a geometric border and small squares. Suksuk adorned many piña garments worn by women in the Visayas. Because suksuk-embellished clothing was not sent to on Luzon to be embroidered, many of these garments stayed in communities in the Philippines, and they are not commonly found in American collections today.
