The Providence merchant William Fairchild Megee imported a "Triumph of Virtue" in March 1797 at a cost of $16.00 from Canton. A similar picture entitled "Charity" elicited the following comment from Capt. George Benson of Brown, Benson & Ives in a letter from Providence, August 1, 1799 to Samuel Snow of Canton: "Capt. Page has a Scripture picture called 'Charity' which has one figure in my opinion not duly covered" (Rhode Island Historical Society).
