Drawing the Line
Mar 30, 2001 – Jun 10, 2001

Label copy

In this print, Christian Rohlfs uses bold, continuous, curving lines that complement the raw, sensuous energy of his subject. The image was printed from a carved linoleum block. All the white areas of the image were cut away, leaving the line drawing in high relief. The relief areas were then inked and printed onto the paper. This technique is ideally suited for making starkly graphic images with strong light-and-dark contrasts and broadly designed areas.
