Hazlitt’s technique of working on the sheet laid on a piece of corrugated cardboard in Untitled (1979) creates a pattern of parallel lines. This texture changes direction and intensity in different areas of the composition, giving the sensation of layers of cardboard arranged at varying depths and angles beneath the surface of the page. The green patterning resembles patches of grass while also representing the abstraction of three-dimensional space on a flat surface.
