This drawing of a young woman in profile employs both careful modeling and very loose linework, especially in the contouring of the back of her neck. The use of ink wash gives a sense of weight to the work and gently guides our eye around the figure.

A painter, printmaker, and sculptor, Michael Platt loved drawing most of all for its capacity to reworked: “Drawing is something that you can change quickly. It’s not permanent on the paper. You can easily manipulate images in drawing. In drawing there is no such thing as a mistake. You just make marks on paper, and you can erase them if you have to.”
