Design and Description

January 27 - April 9, 2006

In the 16th century, many French, Flemish, and Italian artists were employed by a succession of French kings at Fontainebleau, then the primary residence of the French court. This drawing exhibits the style of Luca Penni, who worked there and also headed a workshop in Paris. The flat and linear rendering suggests that the drawing may have
been a study for stuccowork.
