Label copy

Featuring elaborately curved forms and extravagant ornamentation, these gilded wood wall sconces—like the mirrors behind you—represent an English adaptation of the French Rococo style. A stag and a wild boar attacked by dogs emerge from the top of the C-shaped scrolls, making reference to hunting scenes. Completing the naturalistic theme are acorns, oak leaves, reeds, and bullrushes.

–Elizabeth A. Williams, David and Peggy Rockefeller Curator of Decorative Arts and Design
