In this painting, human pelvic bones are suspended within a shadowy background, surrounded by and intertwined with lines that variously resemble roots, nerve endings, or parts of cellular organisms. The title alludes both to the uterus—an organ that might be situated within the bones—and to the sense of motion conveyed by the numerous linear elements. Wandering Womb is characteristic of Kim’s unexpected, imaginative, and often unsettling representations of natural and bodily forms to subtly reflect on gender, sexuality, and identity.
