Stamping with roll dies creates a patterned form or border decoration by rolling metal through a set of dies made of two parts (concave and convex).
Stamping with a drop press forms a metal object by placing metal in a two-part steel die, then using a drop press to force the metal into the shape and design of the dies. Dies are made by "sinking" or cutting designs into the steel.
