Laura Brown-Lavoie is a poet and farmer, born and raised near the Charles River. Her families come from Europe, journeys mostly forgotten, and have for some generations called themselves New Englanders. Recipient of the 2019 RI State Council for the Arts Fellowship for Merit in Poetry, Laura was also the 2018-2019 Providence Public Library Creative Fellow, and a finalist for the 2019 Ruth Stone Poetry Prize. Laura has represented Providence as a finalist in several national poetry slams, and served for two years as the co-director of the Providence Poetry slam, a community of poets and activists where she can still be found reading most Thursdays.
Originally from San Francisco, Tongo Eisen-Martin is a poet, movement worker, and educator. His latest curriculum on extrajudicial killing of Black people, We Charge Genocide Again, has been used as an educational and organizing tool throughout the country. His book titled, Someone's Dead Already was nominated for a California Book Award. His latest book Heaven Is All Goodbyes was published by the City Lights Pocket Poets series, was shortlisted for the Griffin Poetry Prize and won a California Book Award and an American Book Award.
Tina Cane is the founder and director of Writers-in- the-Schools, RI, for which she works as a visiting poet, and is also an instructor with the writing community, Frequency Providence. Over the past twenty years, Tina has taught French, English, and creative writing in public and private schools throughout New York City and Rhode Island. She is the author of Once More With Feeling (Other Painters Press, 2008), Dear Elena: Letters for Elena Ferrante, poems with art by Esther Solondz (Skillman Avenue Press), Once More With Feeling (Veliz Books, 2017) and Body of Work (Veliz Books in 2019). Tina was the 2016 recipient for the Fellowship Merit Award in Poetry from the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts and currently serves as the Poet Laureate of Rhode Island, where she lives with her husband and their three children.
