About
Artist Elena Kalkova (RISD MA 2021 Global Arts and Cultures) from Russia, hosts interactive, hands-on sessions examining family connections through art-making. Kalkova’s recent series of works, Family Ties, explores the complexities of family relationships, especially between different generations of women of the same family. Through this personal lens, feminism in the Post-Soviet space is explored.
Each session begins with looking closely at art made by Kalkova and other artists. A variety of prompts inspire participants to think about their own family histories. Everyday materials are used to tell your own family stories and create portraits of the people in your life.
